EarBuds Podcast Collective is a listening movement. We send a weekly newsletter that contains a theme and five podcast episode recommendations on that theme, and each week is curated by a different person. Anyone can curate a list. We also release a weekly podcast episode that mirrors the newsletter.
The mission of More Sauce…
The mission of More Sauce is to create and nurture a space for Black voices in podcasting to discuss everyday lifestyle topics. From helping listeners to articulate their thoughts around their mental wellness on Imani State of Mind with Dr. Imani Walker to the intergenerational perspective of topics like relationships and motherhood with media personality Porsha Williams along with mom and sister on “Porsha 4 Real,” coming later this fall.
Here at More Sauce, we aim to create engaging, entertaining content that anyone can relate to.
And while I encourage you all to spend your time tuning into the dynamic Black women mentioned above, the podcasts below also capture the mission and inspiration that the More Sauce team channeled when creating and curating our slate of shows. These hosts and creators convey what it truly means to be unapologetically yourself through each episode, and have captured the attention of audiences who crave that realness and authenticity that so often reflects their own experiences.
The podcasts below are just a few staff picks at More Sauce – they barely scratch the surface of the talent out there -- so keep searching and subscribing to find your personal favorites!
California Love
California Love is part memoir, part love letter to Los Angeles. Host Walter Thompson-Hernandez effortlessly guides you through his relationship with the city of angels, takes a sharp look at the changes brought on by gentrification and the people who shape the culture of this city. I was instantly hooked by the storytelling and consistently amazed by the sound design. California Love is a 2020 standout and has me listening to all 8 episodes like a music album I can’t get enough of.
Scam Goddess
Scam Goddess is the most fun way to learn how so many people got away with the most infamous and audacious cons for so long. Laci Mosley breaks down a different hustler every week with a guest, and her combined respect and skepticism for con artistry makes every episode a total delight. It also has the catchiest theme song of any podcast out there.
Home Cooking
Every episode Hrishikesh Hirway and Samin Nosrat help people with their cooking problems, they sometimes solve food mysteries, and they are always looking to gently dunk on each other. (I don’t know whether I love Hrishi’s puns or Samin’s deep hatred of puns more.) Whenever I listen, I get ideas for new things to try making, and this show has genuinely saved me from eating chili for every meal for the past six months.
Levar Burton Reads
Great book selections, sound design and escapism that's very much needed as we quarantine! Recently, Levar has shared his personal struggles as a Black man and Black artist, and opened up to his audience about overcoming the hurdles of mental health, which is so valuable to explore during 2020. He’s a true gem!
The Salon w/ Lala Milan
Had to include one of our own.. how can you not instantly be drawn into Lala's vibrant personality! Lala immediately gives listeners the feeling like they’re catching up with an old friend, as she invites social media and beauty influencers, comedians, actors and actresses to take a seat in her “salon chair.” She takes no filter to the next level, and absolutely nothing is off topic with Lala!
