'That Halloween Podcast' Features Interviews With Renowned Halloween Filmmakers

This is a guest blog post from podcast enthusiast Jeff DePaoli of the DePodcast Network. Here at EarBuds Podcast Collective, we are a podcast recommendation engine. We send a weekly email newsletter and put out a weekly podcast episode, both of which are filled with podcast recommendations from curators around the world.

Halloween is my favorite day of the year. It has been since I was a little kid. Halloween is what I like to call the “no obligations holiday.” With most holidays there are “requirements,” that if you don’t do them, you often end up in an argument with loved ones. But with Halloween, there are no rules. It’s when kids are allowed to stay up late and eat candy while adults lose their inhibitions and allow the stress of the world to be ignored for one special day. Whether you’re into the autumnal aspects of the season, like going to a pumpkin farm, the horror angle, or perhaps you just really like candy and dressing up. There’s something for everyone with this holiday.

Back in March, I think we all thought things would be back to “normal” by now. But indeed they aren’t… and Halloween 2020 is definitely going to look different than we’ve known in more recent years. It is very important to me that just because things are different this year, doesn’t mean that Halloween is canceled.

Halloween will never be canceled.

It may just need to be celebrated differently. That is why I created my latest project, “That Halloween Podcast.” The purpose of this new podcast is to help people celebrate the holiday safely from their homes. Viewing of scary movies and Halloween specials are part of a lot of folks’ Halloween traditions. This year there may be even more of those sorts of activities, sitting on the sofa at home. That’s why for every day this October I’m releasing a new podcast episode, suggesting a new Halloween related title for people to watch.

When I first started looking into lists of Halloween movies, everything I googled had tons of titles that are spooky, but not necessarily Halloween-specific. That’s fine, but I was really interested in movies and specials that took place on or around Halloween. Those are the sorts of titles we discuss on my new podcast. Each day on the podcast I have a different guest joining me, and boy was I surprised by how many people wanted to take part. I have some incredible guests like David Kirschner, who created and produced “Hocus Pocus,” Don Mancini who created the horror icon Chucky, when he wrote “Child’s Play,” Allison Abbate who worked on “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Frankenweenie,” Michael Aiello who was the senior director of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida, D.J. MacHale who co- created the tv series “Are You Afraid of the Dark,” Kimberly J. Brown who starred in Disney’s “Halloweentown” and so many more amazing guests.

The podcast launched on October 1st and each day I’m releasing “fun size” episodes so that people can easily follow along as they become aware of the podcast. I hope that folks enjoy our conversations not only about Halloween specials and movies, but also our traditions and more. As I said, Halloween is my favorite day of the year and I’m determined to do what I can to make sure that everyone continues to celebrate this magical day. Even during the weirdness that is 2020.
