List of podcasts curated by: Amy Westervelt, the founder of the Critical Frequency podcast network

In honor of Earth Day, Amy Westervelt brings us this mid-week mini-list of podcasts about climate change and environmental activism. Amy hopes for these podcasts to bring listeners new discoveries and a lens on climate activism that surprises them.

Amy writes: Climate podcasts are my jam! For Earth Day, I like to listen to ones that take me back to the roots of the climate movement, which was inspired by the civil rights movement and rage at oil companies.

EarBuds is a weekly podcast recommendations newsletter and podcast. We bring subscribers and listeners a theme and five podcast episodes on that theme, and each week is curated by a different person. So, you never have to worry about where you’ll find your next favorite podcast. From time to time, we also put out a mid-week mini-list on our blog. We use these mini-lists as a way of putting out topical content for our content partners and podcast friends!

Podcast: Damages

Episode: Manoomin v. Minnesota

Description: In this podcast, Law & Order meets the climate crisis through stories that dig into hundreds of climate cases making their way through courts around the world. This season explores cases that involve the rights of nature. This episode kicks off the season with the story of what happened when wild rice (or manoomin in the Ojibwe language) sued the state of Minnesota's Department of Natural Resources.

Podcast: Threshold

Episode: Time to 1.5 | 1 | 1.5 to Stay Alive

Description: Threshold is a narrative climate podcast that manages to be balanced and thoughtful without falsely justifying either side of the issue. The first episode of the “Time to 1.5” series explains where the goal of keeping global warming to 1.5 degrees or less came from. Turns out, this goal was not solely the result of scientific analysis, but also a whole lot of political jockeying.

Podcast: Blood River

Episode: Part 1: The Witness

Description: Blood River is a true-crime thriller that digs into the murder of Indigenous environmental justice activist Berta Cáceres in Honduras. In this first episode, we get all the shadowy details of the fateful night of her death, and a window into why Cáceres had so many enemies.
